Back at it
Working on my solo exhibit:
This week I've finally dove into putting my concepts onto my drawing surfaces. After months of sketching thumbnails, reading, writing, finding random quotes... I rolled out my Mylar and cut three large sheets (36" x 40"). Side note: I definitely purchased the entire store supply of this stuff last time I was in one of Toronto's Curry's art supply stores. Whoops! (...it is hard to come by in large format here.)
It is crazy how thrilling and nervous this makes me. But as usual the first initial line drawing is the hardest to commit to, once it is done it feels much better! It is nice to be drawing larger scale again and I am reminded of the first time I jumped into a project like this. It was when I barely knew what I was doing with my life. Having moved to a new city for one reason or another and having it all turn upside down overnight. Yet, it would not have gotten me to try and apply for an artist residency that I felt I was overly under-qualified to get into. But I thought, why not? Somehow the jury saw potential in me and let me work in and occupy a downtown studio space where I could explore a dream to draw BIG. I never really tried to draw 'like that' before that opportunity. And don't get me wrong, the experience did have some serious ups and downs, I am incredibly grateful for it. If curious here is an old blog post from that time in my life.
What's changed? Well I'm more self-assured. I didn't really realize this until I started the drawing above. I'm making less tentative pencil marks, I'm really going for it this time :)
(Let's hope my nerves don't get the better of me!)

Organizing art from last year: #1
So far 2013 has brought me...cleaning: the reorganizing and general clutter riddance will hopefully help with the creative flow. After some major furniture moving I've migrated to my computer and realized that I should also organize my photo albums! So, here is a picture I found of my work in progress for the Annual Figureworks Awards Show back in November/December 2012.
For this work I went back to working on mylar. (Click to enlarge) The drawing is done in graphite and a small amount of acrylic paint.
Figureworks is an amazing organization here in Ottawa. They have annual juried award shows, this was my second time participating and my greatest impression is how well they treat their artists. For more information visit: http://figureworks.org/

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year everyone! I want to thank everyone for your support this past year. Particularly to those who gave me much needed extra pushes in confidence. And as equally important, thank-you to those who let me step back and re-focus.
This year I taught at the same art school I did my training in, organized more art events, had a hand in environmental campaigns dear to my heart, and met new amazing and creative friends along the way!
2013 is just starting, but I am in the works to making it the most creative year yet! I hope you can join me in all this fun!

Post-Nuit Blanche 2012
Phew! It's been a couple days since Ottawa's first all-night art event - Nuit Blanche - and I had a blast! There were over 6000 people that passed by our installation and well over 600 people partook in our photo-booth. Our pop-up gallery ended up being jam packed with drawings, notes, and signatures. The overall result was a-maz-ing! Thank-you everyone who paid us a visit. To those who danced with us, talked with us, took pictures with us, and made art with us! Also our lovely volunteers and organizers of this city-wide event - THANK-YOU! What a success!
Here's some chronological shots of our installation from start to finish! (click picture to enlarge)
And here's a look at the photo booth!

Nuit Blanche Ottawa 2012! This Saturday!
Ottawa is having its first Nuit Blanche this year! I will be popping up a gallery in front of the Ottawa School of Art with Lemonjellow Productions.
Inspired by the creative artistry and imagination of pop-up books, we are presenting a “pop-up gallery.” Pre-constructed from recycled materials, this temporary gallery is mobile in the sense that we can “pop it up” anywhere in the city. Our aim is to provide a space where anyone can contribute to this gallery on the spot. The idea is to foster a communal spirit of sharing, interaction, and support from the ground up. In essence anyone who wants to be, will become an artist participating in Nuit Blanche!
When: September 22, 6:22 pm - 4:22am
Where are we located? 35 George Street, in front of the Ottawa School of Art in the Byward Market
Facebook Event Page: on.fb.me/O7pEAn
Nuit Blanche Ottawa: www.nuitblancheottawa.ca
I will also have original prints on display at La Nouvelle Scene, a lovely french theatre on 333 King Edward Ave. as part of their Nuit Blanche installation with the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers.
